Die stetige Erweiterung der Europäischen Union und eine gleichzeitige nationale Bewußtwerdung innerhalb ihrer Mitgliedstaaten, verstärken zunehmend die Frage nach persönlichen Bezugssystemen. Was bedeuten Staaten, Nationalismen oder Sprachen in einem vereinten Europa und in einer vernetzten Welt?

Ein dadurch entstehendes "Innen und Außen" löst das ursprüngliche West-Ost Verhältnis der Vergangenheit zunehmend ab. Mangel und Unzufriedenheit auf
der einen Seite stehen einer wachsenden Angst vor dem Verlust des erlangten Wohlstandes auf der anderen Seite gegenüber.

be-longing fokussiert die Ränder und Brüche von Identität und Zugehörigkeit innerhalb und außerhalb der Union am Beispiel Österreich- Albanien. Anhand von künstlerischen Statements soll das persönliche Verhältnis von Identität zu den eigenen Sehnsüchten untersucht und Ausschau nach neuen Bezugssystemen gehalten werden.

The constant expansion of the European Union and a simultaneously developing rational consciousness within the member states additionally reinforce the question of personal reference systems. What do the terms states, nationalisms or languages mean in a united and linked up world? An "inside" and "outside" as a result of each amalgamation more and more supersedes the original east-west relationship of the past. Shortcomings and dissatisfaction on the one side are placed opposite the increasing fear of loosing the achieved wealth on the other side. The exhibition deals with the analysis of aspects of personal longing, necessities and surviving strategies which have already been developed from this twofold inclusion and exclusion.

The driving force of longing is the absence. Longing arises from the fact that the relationship to the others and to the world needs constant reinforcement. A defiance of explicitness and the consciousness of a necessary un-attainability which are connected in a paradox way, feed the playground for longing. While desire is not directed towards something previously absent that can be reached or not, longing is bound towards the absence of the desired and therefore it can neither reach a set goal nor fail.

If at all longing will find temporary satisfaction in the movement it constantly creates anew. The primary focus of be-longing is not the comparison or the listing of Albanian and Austrian perspectives, the concentration is rather placed on the peripheries and the gaps of identity and belonging, inside and outside of the Union .

With the artistic statement the personal relationship of identity and the personal longings will be examined and new reference systems are to be developed.

Be-longing is a long term and long lasting co-operation between the Albanian Cultural Centre Lindart and the IG BILDENDE KUNST in Vienna , Austria which is established on the three proven levels:
1. Institutional co-operation
2. Collaboration between curators
3. Artistic collaboration
